Watchmen - the topic Empty Watchmen - the topic

Well, I just finished reading the aforementionned graphic novel series...

...And I'm fairly certain that it's one of the most depressing things I've ever read.

It's pretty awesome, with very deep psychologically realistic characters and an ending that leaves you wondering whether or not the right thing has been done.

I thought it was depressing, but in a good way, if that's possible.

Way too dark for me, but is that the type of mood you guys want for the comics?

For Faceless, yes.

But Unwanted Magic feels different in my opinion...

I agree with the Faceless thing, what do you mean about UA though, what does it feel like to you? I have to admit my brain is still mostly stuck in Faceless mode.

Much more..sad. The element of darkness isn't there but has more tragic feelings instead.

I actually thought differently about the depressing parts. I felt it actually kind of hearening, even in a bittersweet kind of way. The evil is accepted as evil, and it truely is sad what happens but a better world IS acheived in the end. I am not like Adrian, I do not condone such acts of intense violence with the mere rationale of "I will feel bad". But the "heroes" of the story tried to stop him and he was smart enough to get his way despite their best effort. There is nothing they could have done and that is the way things are, and things that have been done cant be undone. There was no gain to be made by killing Adrian and to have done so would have robbed the ending of its power. I think he was sincere in his goals, perhaps corrupt in his methods but from the others perspective there was only one action available to them which was to preserve the peace his evil had won.

Also: the book is not about human strength, but our flaws.

Saw the movie. MUCH less depressing; all the funny and/or lighthearted bits kept, while everything else was condensed. Changed quite a few things for the movie. Wierd how the 2nd gen Nite Owl and Silk Spectre were so much more in the spotlight; stole Rorchach's (sp?) thunder.
