It's a city I made for either Pathfinders of D and D. Hope you like it! I also included a character of mine, as it's her home.

Elmwood (Aelyr Thysaer)

A magical city built among the giant trees of the Elmwood forest. It’s name comes from the primarily dominated tree, being the elm and other varieties of deciduous trees. Many legends stem from this reclusive, and to many beyond Port Town, it is a legend.

Centuaries ago, when the elven reign fell, the people fled from the crumbling cities for fear of death. They came upon a vast forest, made almost entirely of large elm trees. Under the great shade of the leaves, the elven people were safe. Soon, however, the darkness of the fallen empire began to spread, and the lost magic began to infect the corpses of the fallen around Elmwood. Shrouds of skeletons and fallen men rose again to destroy the living. With their homes destroyed and nowhere to go, the elves were helpless.

Those limber enough to live in the trees, the forest gnomes, took pity on the elves. They made a pact with the elves that if the gnomes were to build them homes among the tree tops and give them weapons, that they would fight off the enemy, for the gnomes were far too small and weak compared to their elvish cousins. The elves agreed, and with swords and shields in hand, they fought against the seemingly endless horde of undead. The forest gods and guardians saw the fight, and they too assisted the elves by blessing them with precious emerald that held the remains of magic that the gods could find. Using these blessed stones and weapons, the elves were able to better the mindless ghouls and great celebration ensued. The leader of the elves, Nym Selkie, was especially admired by the gods and upon him was bestowed a great power to ensure the forest remain safe from the chaos that existed beyond the boarder. His magic inhand and a growing army of elves, Nym worked together with the gnomes to create a fine city in the trees. The elm was resistant to rot and was strong, and using of their remaining power, enchanted the wood so it would never break or bend. After the city’s completion, a great festival was held in honour of the forest gods, who bestowed the elves of Elmwood with such prosperity.

Time wore on, and the city grew. Metal replaced the waneing magic, and technology were used in place of enchantment. The legends were mainly forgotten, though the Selkie family was and will continue to be the leading faction of the ancient hidden city in the green.

Sos os si Saer (Triumph of the Trees)

The day when the city of Elmwood was completed. The gods of the forest are thanked and the elven ancestors are paid respects for a three day festival. Most of the festivities take place during evening, to represent the darkness that the elves of old endured when they first came to the forest. All the lanterns are lit, and the people dance around one large fire set in the centre of the city (the fire is enchanted so that it does not cause flames to spread). The fire represents the small hope and power the elves possessed when they came to Elmwood. As the three days pass, the fire grows as the elves strength had.

The gods of the forest are thanked with sacrifices of crops. Games to represent the slaying of the undead are also played. One such game is where one individual (usually a Selkie child or youngling) is selected as a fighter or the Nym, while several other children are dubbed as Ghouls. They place skeletons on the ends of sticks and run about the fire, chasing the Nym. The Nym is tasked with defeating the dancing Ghouls by dismembering the skeleton with a sword. Once all the Ghouls are defeat, the bones are tossed into the fire and a great feast is held.

The final day is a day of mourning. The ancestors who fought the great war against the infinite undead are remembered by having the family elder dress in traditional armour. The elders say prayers by the fire while the townsfolk are present, and the ceremony is concluded when the elders toss wooden swords into the fire, a sign of victory and peace.

Si aelaestia air baleraer! Shi tae jholi ail vaeli. (The enemy is vanquished; we may live in peace.)

This saying was apparently said when Nym cast his enchanted sword into a blazing flame to return the magical device back to the gods who gave it to him, as he did not need it anymore, as the enemy were defeated.

The Gnomes

A good deal of gnomes live in Elmwood along with the elves. Having fought together those long years ago, the two groups have a strong bond in Elmwood and treat each other as equals (unlike the Imperials, who few gnomes as very lowly creatures). Few migrated to the mountains when Elmwood was built, as they saw their promise made and with the path cleared of danger, were finally able to leave the forest and return home. Many stayed, due to friendships made during the great battle and the construction of the city.

The few that desired to remain among the elves made homes surrounding the lone inn beneath Elmwood.

The Selkie Clan

The family incharge of guarding and governing Elmwood. At present, Eraon Selkie heads the frontier, but as he reaches his 300th birthday, he wishes to establish an heir. His three children, Gaelin, Holo and Allaria, however, all seem to reject the concept of leadership. The most reluctant is the current chosen heir, Allaria, as the family head is normally female. The reason is that Nym saw fit that Elmwood be matrilineal, as he had much respect for a his wife’s grace and tenderness, as well as her iron will and free spirited nature. The reason that Eraon took the role of chief was due to the death of his sister. Allaria refused the honour, as she wished to find riches and live an adventurers’ life. The outside world is still an unknown to most of Elmwood’s population, and many are terrified of “Ground life”, making Allaria’s decision one of apparent madness.

She was originally forced to remain within the confines of the city, but broke this rule on many occasion. Having had enough, Eraon challenged his daughter to a duel; should her father win, Allaria would have to remain in the city and become the city’s chief, while if she were to win, Allaria would be free to do as she pleased with the Selkie blessing. Allaria won the battle, and was given control of her fate as promised.

In general, the temperament of the Selkie’s are that of conservative quiet individuals. Most are generally cool headed, with keen intelligence and a love of humour. A few individuals, Allaria included, are an exception to the rule; though she is a smart girl, she is rash and tends to use her fists as a method of communication. The Selkie’s are also said to be one of the most handsome families of the elven race, and this is seen in Eraons offspring. The family hope that Allaria and her brothers have many heirs to take the role of leader; all three are opposed to this concept, as none of them want to be held down by the confines of marriage.

Si Kael Mor (The Green Shield)

The protective stones granted to the Elmwood Elves by the God`s to defend the forest from the undead hoards. Each stone had a particular ability based on the individual using it, but all were defensive. The majority create large fields of energy that repel all negative energy, while others make great roots grow from the earth in a sort of physical protection. Either way, they are powerful old magic and it is said that they connect you directly to the forest Gods.

All but one was lost to time; Nym`s Kael Mor was kept safe by the Selkie clan, and is a sort of anniversary stone. Upon marriage, the bride would give this stone to her husband (in very rare cases, like Eraon, the groom to his bride) as a symbol in their partnership in protecting the people. Eroan`s wife, Nefiea, guards it dearly and is never without wearing it. She has promised it to Allaria when she takes her position as chief.

Allaria Selkie

The chosen heir of the Selkie clan. Being the only female of her three siblings, she was automatically placed in the position of succedor of the title Chief. However, she refuses the title, along with her two brothers. The family and community were distraught by her rejection, but ultimately believe that she will come to her senses and accept the role of leader.

Allaira is famous for her headstrong and rash behaviour, but her strength and intelligence almost always get her out of the problems she creates for herself with said former tendencies. As a youth, she would always be frantic if a trader were to come by. To her mother’s horror, she would scale the forty foot trees to the ground, as she saw the pulley systems they used to go to and from the ground as too slow. Allaria is also rather naive, as during these excursions to Ground Life, she would be looked upon as an aggravation and seen with some racial hostility. She merely thought they were too busy. These occurances were rare, however, and she often made friends with the travellers due to her charming demeanour. Her favourite toy actually came from one of these traders, an oak wooden sword which she would wear about wherever she went. Being a peaceful people, the Elmwood elves had few weapons, and the wooden ones they possessed were strictly for Sos os si Saer, so this toy was a treasure indeed. Not wanting to be left with no one to spar with, Allaria and her brothers used the sword as a model and created several other wooden swords for the other few elven and gnomish children, and together, they created Si Mar Tylesys (The Small Conquerors) a small sparring group that went to “fend off the forces of evil”. Most of the time, it resulted in mini brawls among the children.

As a young adult elvish woman at the age of seventy five, she is as charming as ever and just as feisty. Allaria has been dubbed as the most handsome of her elf generation among her people, and was often courted by the few elven men that resided in Elmwood. All of which she declined, usually in a heartless manner, such as laughing and/ or slapping the individual for their insolence. “What do you think I am, a tool?” would be the usual saying she would give to the rejected. Despite these put downs, they would often continue pursuing her for a mate.

Allaria is often kind with a tomboyish attitude. Though she wears the traditional toga esque skirt, beneath she wears pants, due to her love of climbing and running. She always carries around a weapon “just in case” and has an uncanny ability to tame the animals of the wilderness. She has an intense fear of other elves, as the traders from the Ground often speaking of them kidnapping and inslaving humans and other creatures to do their evil bidding.

Allaria values freedom above all else, though she often has a weakness for money and alcohol, her favourite being elven ale.
