Possible game

Hey guys. I've been working on an idea for a long-term homebrew low-magic fantasy campaign I'd like to run. It'd be a fairly non-traditional format, with the characters starting at 0th level and working their way up. Would anyone be interested?

The game would probably be mostly online; we could put a forum section on here for it; and then major encounters would be either in-person, in a chat program like MSN messenger, or both (webcam, anyone?).

If no one's interested, then I think I'll start writing up the campaign on here somewhere, 'cause it's been bouncing around in my head for years and needs to be put somewhere.

I'll second that. We could do it here, or on RPOL, if anyone still visits that. Sounds like an interesting idea, will we be working in any system in particular? Or will that be home brewed too?

All pretty much homebrew. The characters will be starting as human peasants from a small town, with a couple abilities that they excel and/or fail at. I'm going to try to work with each player to create a detailed character background that meshes well with everyone else's.

This sounds pretty cool, and also, quite detailed, I like my RP to be many layered, so I am quite excited.


We could always just make another forum like this, or a thread in this one for it.

Would any of you guys mind if I invited my sister Kathryn to join the game? She need not have access to the private stuff.

At least a 2 more people would be nice. Help keep you from dying too quick. I've asked my sister but she hasn't agreed yet, let alone started a character. (though she does like to play the sneaky ones)

You're welcome to invite them. Since parts can be run individually without taking time, and we can automate you if you don't post during combat, there's less reason to limit the player base.

I'll start the game once we've got 3-4 characters. Additional players can have their characters either be assumed to be part of it all along, or come into the party through other means. I may even allow the hijacking of NPCs.

Well, once you're done with your backstory and stuff, post an introduction to your character (only stuff that the other characters would know) in the topic "Characters". Write the skills you've got bonuses in. Each of those skills will start at +1. You'll get an additional +5 to allocate yourself (ability scores take 3 points to raise), but none may have more than a +3.

You say attributes, what system are we using?

I'm assuming that you mean ability scores, seeing as how I didn't use the word "attribute".

It's the basic STR-DEX-CON-WIS-INT-CHA attributes. The average human score is 0 - that means that the character has neither a bonus nor a penalty when using that attribute.

When you do anything that might require a skill check, you decide what skills, items and abilities you think are relevant. You then name the abilities, the bonus/penalty you get for each, and a 1d20 roll for each individual action you're taking.

We are going to start with some modifiers, or none?

You'll start with two +1 attributes and one -1 attribute.
